J. Brantley Durrett, III
Brant Durrett has twenty years
of litigation experience concentrated in complex
civil litigation matters with a particular emphasis
in insurance, business and personal injury
litigation.
In 1989, Mr. Durrett began his legal career as an
associate with Fouts & Moore, LLP. In that capacity,
he worked exclusively in the firm’s business
litigation section. In addition to the usual
business litigation matters involving fraud, breach
of contract and partnership disputes, his experience
included representing apartment owners in
polybutylene litigation and the Federal Deposit
Insurance Corporation in litigation related to the
takedown and transfer of assets of five savings and
loan associations that ultimately became First
Gibraltar, FSB.
As an attorney with the Durrett Law Firm, Mr.
Durrett represents policyholders, individual and
small businesses, in litigation to resolve disputes
with insurers. Over his 20 years of practice, he has
handled hundreds of insurance cases and obtained
millions of dollars in settlements for his clients.
Recently, Mr. Durrett recovered numerous large
settlements for business interruption and property
damage claims from insurance carriers who had
previously denied his client’s claims arising from
Hurricane Ike. In addition to his insurance
litigation practice, Mr. Durrett has developed a
personal injury practice for serious injury cases.
In 2008, he recovered a large settlement (widely
reported in Verdict Search) on behalf of his client,
a gentleman who lost his wife in a car accident
against a homeowner’s association.
Aside from his litigation experience, Mr. Durrett
has significant appellate experience before the
United States Court of Appeal for the Fifth Circuit
and the Texas Courts of Appeal, where he has handled
an insurance case of first impression in Texas and
won reversal of lower court mistakes.
Mr. Durrett is a graduate of Baylor University
and the University of Mississippi School of Law,
where he was editor of the Journal of Space Law.
He has been a licensed attorney in Texas since 1989.
He is a Life Member of the Million Dollar Advocates
Forum for a settlement obtained for a client against
its insurance carrier exceeding $1 million. He is
also a member of numerous professional
organizations, including the State Bar of Texas
(Sections: Litigation, Insurance, and Commercial and
Consumer Law), the College of the State Bar of
Texas, the Houston Bar Association (Sections:
Litigation, Consumer and Commercial Law, Cyberlaw,
Law Practice Management) and the American
Association for Justice (Sections: Motor Vehicle
Liability, Insurance, Medical Malpractice,
Commercial Litigation and Expert Witnesses).
Mr. Durrett resides in Houston, Texas with his
wife, Shari. His daughter, Hailie, is a student at
Texas A&M University. His hobbies include dove and
turkey hunting, fantasy football and motorcycles.
